book of e-textiles: Open SoftWear

Open Softwear is a book we have had for a while now but I haven’t had time to tell you about it at all. The authors of the book are from Malmö University and have tested all of the projects at the book in their courses there. The book is quite new and its second edition came out on 2011.

We got the book on summer and I didn’t know what to expect. Now I can tell you it is a nice book for anyone interested of wearable electronics and e-textiles. It is also a book for anyone interested of electronics an in need of education of the basic concepts and electronics parts. It for example explains you that an electronic circuit works when it is closed and in order to for example put LED on and off you need to create and manipulate that circuit. It also has creative and fun examples of projects possible with soft electronics.

This book is very warmly recommended for all the designers and artists in the field of media and electronic culture and interested in e-textile or Arduino projects.

Hei!

 

Paeae Technologies muuttaa maaliskuussa uuteen osoitteeseen. Tämän vuoksi joudumme pitämään tauon ja sulkemaan kaupan kuukauden ajaksi. Huhtikuussa jatkamme uusissa tiloissa tuttuun tapaan.

Aikataulu:
- 20.2. alkaen toimitusajat ovat normaalia pidempiä. Varaudu viikon toimitusaikaan.
- 1.3.-31.3. liike on suljettu.
- 1.4.2012 alkaen olemme uudessa osoitteessa.

 

Arduino – perusteista hallintaan on Massimo Banzin cc-lisensoitu Getting Started with Arduino suomennettuna. Tämä aloittelijoille suunnattu ja helppotajuinen kirja on tarjolla täällä Arduino – perusteista hallintaan. Nyt voit siis valita englanninkielisen alkuteoksen sijasta halutessasi myös suomenkielisen version kirjasta. Kirja on Robomaa.comin suomentama ja kustantama.

Happy New Year 2012!

 

Paeae Technologies will move to a new address during March 2012. That means we have to close the shop for one month but we will continue normally on April.

Timetable:
- From February 20th the delivery time will be longer than normally. Be prepared for even a one week.
- March 1st to 31rd the Paeae store is closed.
- We will open up again on April first.

 

Massimo Banzi’s great book Getting Started with Arduino is available also in Finnish. The book is called Arduino – perusteista hallintaan so you can now pick the book in Finnish or in English. Finnish version is Published by Robomaa.com.

Päivä aikaa tehdä joulutilaukset!

Tänään tilatut tuotteet ehtivät vielä jouluksi perille riippumatta tilauksen koosta ja kuljetustavasta. (Jos tilaukset ovat meillä maanantaiaamuna, niin ne ehditään vielä toimittaa) Pienemmät, kirjekuoreen mahtuvat tilaukset sensijaan ehtii tilata vielä maanantain, 19.12. aikana.

 

Jouluyllätyksenä kaikki yli 100 euron tilaukset ovat saaneet ja tulevat saamaan mukaansa joulunpunaisen koekytkentälevyn.

New revision 3 boards of Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega 2560

Arduino team has published new revision 3 boards of Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega 2560 at the beginning of December. These boards are also available in Finland.

Revision 3 of the board has the following new features:

  •  1.0 pinout: added SDA and SCL pins that are near to the AREF pin and two other new pins placed near to the RESET pin, the IOREF that allow the shields to adapt to the voltage provided from the board. In future, shields will be compatible both with the board that use the AVR, which operate with 5V and with the Arduino Due that operate with 3.3V. The second one is a not connected pin, that is reserved for future purposes.
  •   Stronger RESET circuit.
  •   Atmega 16U2 replace the 8U2.

Talvitervehdys

Arduino-tiimi kasvattaa tuotevalikoimaansa jatkuvasti, ja nyt onkin tarjolla uusi versio Mega 2560:sta. Mega 2560 rev. 3 on myynnissä nyt joulukuun alusta. Langattomaan kommunikaatioon on täysin uusi Wireless SD shield, joka on yhdistelmä Xbee-shieldistä ja proto-shieldistä. Samalla valmistaja on laskenut Xbee-shieldin hintaa. Tämä näkyy tietenkin myös meillä!

Muistathan tilata joulupaketit ajoissa. Jouluaikaan posti ruuhkautuu ja tämä vaikuttaa myös meidän toimintaamme. Jouluaatoksi perille haluttavat pakettitoimitukset (Postipaketti, 16) tulee tilata viimeistään sunnuntaina 18.12. klo 14 mennessä. Itellan kirje/maksikirje vaihtoehdolla tilausten tulee olla meillä viimeistään maanantaina 19.12. Huomioithan, että suuret tai erikoisarvokkaat lähetykset saatetaan joutua pakkaamaan laatikkoon. Välipäivien toimitukset voivat olla hiukan normaalia hitaampia.

Happy Christmas time!

New Arduino products available again! There is now a new version of Mega 2560 board: Mega 2560 rev. 3. Another new thing is a Wireless SD shield for wireless communication. This shield is like Xbee shield and Proto shield combined. At the same time the price of Xbee Shield is reduced.

Please remember to make your Christmas orders in time. Box deliveries in Finland for holiday season should be ordered by Sunday 18th December at 14.00. Envelope orders (kirje/maksikirje) should be made by Monday 19th December. Please notice that very big orders may require a box delivery. We may have bit longer delivery times between Christmas and New Year.

Paeae in Tampere: E-textiles and Cupcake

Update 7th of October:
Unfortunately Sivu has a high fever and we have to cancel 3D printing and Sunday’s workshop. I will how ever come and have the Saturdays workshop.

We will be in Tampere and at Mansedanse festival next weekend.
Saturday at 13 – 16: Introduction to the E-textiles (open, beginner workshop)
Saturday at 15 – 17: Sivu will print out some 3D thingies so you can come and see the printer. It’s Makerbot’s Cupcake + some small modifications.
Sunday at 14 – 19: E-textile workshop. Come and start or continue your projects, get tips how to work with e-textiles and wearable electronics, or what they actually even are. Knowledge of Arduino and electronics means you can get further with your things but is not required.

So we had an e-textile workshop in CARTES, Espoo on 27th August 2011. Had about 10 active participants and more people asking of the topic. This was a non-stop so anyone could stop by for as long or short time as they wanted. We had extremely simple things but people seemed to get new ideas, as was my intention and we had fun as well. All the guideline papers I printed went: some group came after the workshop and took the rest. We may have next one in Tampere quite soon. Will inform in Twitter or Newsletter. E-textile workshop in Espoo

Paeae will have a hands-on introduction to the E-textiles at CARTES on Saturday, 27th of August.

The workshop will be held as a non-stop workshop, which means you can be there for a longer time or just for a short visit. No registration needed, free of charge. Just stop by between 13-17.

How to combine electronics with soft items like clothes or toys? If you have ever dreamed about doing a smart jewelries, interactive toys or getting to know the topic of e-textile, here is your chance to start. How to sew electronic components together?  What is the difference between smart textiles and just plain e-textiles without interaction? The workshop will be very easy to approach and in beginners level. That means everyone are welcome and we keep it quite simple.

You can bring something soft with you, to add for example LED’s to it. Join and try things with out any fees, but in case you want to take electronics parts with you, prepare to pay some material fees of them.

Centre of Art and Technology Espoo, CARTES is located at the WeeGee house in Tapiola, Espoo. CARTES is a center for art and technology, concentrating in digital culture and new media art.

Paeae pitää käytännönläheisen johdatuksen E-tekstiilien maailmaan CARTESilla lauantaina, 27.8.

Workshop on nonstop-muotoinen, eli voit viettää workshopissa niin paljon tai vähän aikaa kuin haluat. Ei ennakkoilmoittautumista tai osallistumismaksua. Workshop pyörii klo 13-17 välillä.
Miten yhdistää elektroniikkaa pehmeisiin esineisiin kuten vaatteisiin tai leluihin? Jos olet koskaan haaveillut tekeväsi älykkäitä koruja, interaktiivisia leluja tai tutustuvasi e-tekstiilien maailmaan, tässä on tilaisuutesi aloittaa. Miten ommella elektroniikkakomponentteja yhteen? Mistä e-tekstiileissä on kyse, ja miten älytekstiili eroaa e-tekstiilistä? Workshop on helppo aloittelijatason johdatus, joten jokainen on tervetullut tutustumaan aiheeseen. Voit tulla piipahtamaan muutamaksi minuutiksi, tai viettää enemmänkin aikaa ommellen ja protyyppaillen.

Voit ottaa mukaasi pehmeitä objekteja, joihin haluaisit liittää esim. led-valoja. Esimerkkinä blogissa aiemmin julkaistu kukka, joka on tehty kahdesta osasta (välissä patterikotelo). Kokeilemaan voi tulla ilman kuluja. Mukaan otettavista tarvikkeista peritään tarvikemaksu. Varaa siis käteistä, mikäli haluat ottaa elektroniikkakomponentteja työpajasta mukaasi.
