Demoscene goes hardware

I’ve been a part of demoscene for twenty something years now and altough i have not been very active in demomaking for the past 7 years or so I still actively take part on Finnish demoparties and help organize few of them (namely Assembly and Altparty).

For few years I’ve been finding the doings of Linus Åkesson quite interesting. Instead of making a demo for any existing platform, he first creates his own hardware by using small microcontrollers like ATMega and then proceeds in making a demo for it.

One of his recent highlights is Phasor which uses ATMega88 to generate PAL video and plays four-channel music. (ATMega88 has 8KB of flash and 1KB of RAM). He is also kind enough to provide detailed explanations of the techniques used and he even provides source code and schematics for most of the demos. Awesome!
