Uutiskirje 20 / Newsletter 20

Arduinolta on tullut heinäkuun alussa uusia tuotteita
Android-kehitykseen suunniteltu Arduino ADK perustuu Arduino Mega 2560 mikrokontrollerille. Uusista tuotteista on enemmän tietoa blogissamme ja Arduinon sivuilla.

E-textile ja LilyPad ovat täällä
Uusia erilaisiin tavaroihin liitettäviä ja ommeltavissakin olevia LilyPad-tuotteita löytyy nyt Arduino Lilypad -kategorian alta. Lisäksi loimme Paeaen oman e-tekstiilipaketin ja laajemmanälytekstiilipaketin. Erityisesti Paeae E-textile Box on suunniteltu monipuoliseksi kokeilupaketiksi, jonka avulla voi hyvin etsiskellä omiin projekteihin parhaiten sopivia tarvikkeita vertailemalla esimerkiksi erilaisia ledejä ja niiden kiinnitystapoja.

Auton tietojen tutkailuun tarkoitettuja tuotteita löydät uudesta kategoriasta CAN / OBD2. Lisäsimme myös hyväksi havaitun ja muokattavissa olevan säilytysrasian, joka pitää pienet osaset melko luotettavasti tallessa.

New products from the Arduino team
The Arduino Ethernet combines a regular Arduino board (Uno) with the Ethernet Shield into a single board. There is also a POE module to help you power your projects. You can use PoE module with Arduino Ethernet or Arduino Ethernet Shield.

The Arduino ADK is based on an Arduino Mega 2560 micro controller and designed for android development. You can read more of this from Paeae blog and Arduino site.

E-textile and LilyPad are here

You can now find a new Arduino Lilypad cathegory from the store. We have also created a Paeae E-Textile Box and it’s also available with LilyPad and FTDI cable as E-textile Programming Pack. They are designed as an easy to step in packs which provide a several components including two different types of LEDs for you to find out the best options for you and your projects.

Also a new cathegory is CAN/OBD2This handy plastic box is good for holding a wide array of small electronics parts and it keeps small parts in their own partitions relatively well.

Flying seagull robot

Nice robot!

The actual flying part starts at about 1:50 –>

LED flower

Made a simple LED flower as I wanted to test the conductive thread in use.

http://instagr.am/p/ITn1Z/?ref=nf

This Flower is made using Paeae E-textile Box and some regular cotton + crochet hook. I used LilyPad battery holder, some conductive thread to sew three LED’s on their places and to make a circuit. Also used a battery, three white LED’s, regular cotton thread in two colours and a needle to sew and hook to make the flower. Flower is made of two different pieces so battery holder can fit in between.

New products from Arduino team

Arduino team has brought out new products to widen the selection. The first releases are the Arduino Ethernet and the Arduino ADK.

So as Google recently released an Arduino-derived open source accessory development kit (ADK) for Android phones and tablets, Arduino ADK is a development tool for the platform, from the Arduino team.

You can read more from the Arduino site.

Delivery times

Normal 2 days delivery times still apply. We will tell you on the store’s homepage if the expected delivery time is longer than usually. As told before, we want to reserve the summer break possibility until 24th of July. In spite of that, we have so far been able to make all the deliveries in normal, quick manner.

Enjoy the Sun ^^

** Edit: 3rd of July **

We are on a summer break during 6th to 24th of July. Delivery times will be longer than usual.

Olemme kesälomalla 6.7.-24.7. Tänä aikana toimitukset ovat normaalia hitaampia.

E-textile

I’ve been inspired of e-textiles for some time now. Now we got a new category for e-textiles and LilyPad in Paeae Store as well. It will grow if anyone else than me is interested of those, if not, perhaps I just do some projects of my own. We will see.

LilyPad boards we have had available for some time now, but new things are part kits for building things and getting started with e-textiles or e-jewelleries: Paeae E-textile Box. There is also a packet for smart textiles that includes the Paeae E-textile Box, LilyPad main board and a FTDI cable to programme your board.

Please see this quite new SparkFun e-textile tutorial in YouTube.

And get inspired with video called “Arduino Art” in YouTube.

wearable instruments

Wearable instruments = e-textiles of kind… Love it as it’s quite original. If you haven’t seen or heard of this yet, see these links:

LilyPad!

You know the LilyPad, don’t you. It’s a board and a series of electronics especially designed for wearable items. How is it different to (other) Arduinos? Well: it’s thinner, nicely coloured, round and a very simple design. It doesn’t have USB though, so you have to plug it to your computer with something else. Otherwise it has “everything”.

If you make the decision to start and try things with e-textiles, e-jewelleries or other such things – first start thinking out of the electronics parts box. What all could  you use to make your electricity to run, or what could you use for making it stop? You have plenty of conductive material at home, even if you are not an electronics enthusiastic yet: aluminum foil, metal beads or metal rings perhaps. You can use them as jumpers and switches. I, myself have started this journey just very recently but am kind of excited. Let’s see if I can get to anywhere.

If you haven’t yet done it, you should check out this LilyPad tutorial by the designer of LilyPad, Leah Buechley. Let Leah show you how to set up or prototype with LilyPad. When you understand what you are doing, go and see the great building ideas and create your own designs. Here is a lovely turn signal blinking jacket.

… Items for e-textiles? See this tutorial from Lynne Brunning (in YouTube).

Been so quiet lately, sorry for that. The life is hectic with so many things in it, but isn’t it like that for everyone. At least some times. Here are some nice links I found recently. Hope you find at least some of these helpfull or fun. ^^

About Arduino: What, how, who and why. “Arduino The Documentary 2010″ (In this, the Arduino Team is interviewed. Massimo Banzi, David Cuartielles, David Mellis, Tom Igoe and Gianluca Martino.)

Last years biggest things form the Arduino team: Uno and Ethernet shield. Nice picture with opened packing. (Got from Paeae, it says in the Tweet I picked this from.)
